The Green Chapel

"Well done, my brave knight. Now...off with your head."
-
The Green Knight awaits on his throne for Sir Gawain, to return the same killing blow which the young man foolishly gave one year ago. The Chapel marks the end of Gawain's quest, and potentially his life, and symbolises the cycle of death and rebirth that lies at the heart of our natural and spiritual world.

Originally an Arthurian Legend, Lowery's 2021 film adaptation "The Green Knight" inspired me to create my own interpretation of the Green Chapel environment. This was a passion project, but also an opportunity to practise foliage asset creation, scene composition, and lighting in UE5 using Lumen.

Huge thanks to everyone who provided feedback during this project, especially Nate Bedford (www.artstation.com/natbed) who also helped massively with concepting the space. Finally thanks to David Lowery and everyone involved for making the incredible movie this was inspired by.

Megascans used for some rock assets, grass and biome textures. The stunted oak tree is a mix of hand sculpted details with MS tileables and leaf atlases. I also used some vfx and shaders from UE asset packs to bring more movement to the scene:
